Chronicles Caregivers care not only about the senior population but also for individuals with disabilities, specifically those with cognitive disabilities. Cognitive Disability is a term used when a person has certain limitations in mental functioning and in skills such as communicating, taking care of themselves, and social skills. We meet individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities every day, and sometimes we can’t even recognize their disability but our team knows through and through that these individuals have special needs that need to be acknowledged and addressed.
Our care goals for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are to achieve and maintain their maximum level of independence. We provide support with intellectual, emotional, social, and physical functioning in the individual’s natural home and community. As such, we immerse them in various activities that increase their sense of self and increases their knowledge of the world around them. Like any of us, these individuals are talented and skilled in various fields and we aim to determine and enhance these potentials for their development. Our care team supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to increase their self-determination and improve their independence.
